Mhsaa division 1 state finals @ east kentwood high school
The girls had a hallmark day at East Kentwood. Lauren Burnett, Christina Micale, Marah Pugh and Kayla Dobies started off the day by placing 8th overall in the 4x800m Relay. They won their heat and their time put them on the podium. Both Shawntes' Gayden and Jillian Flint advanced to the Semifinals in the sprints, but missed the final by fractions of seconds. But that did not slow them down, as they raced to a school record time in the 4x200m Relay and 4x100m Relay. Flint and Gayden teamed with Brina Serafino and Lauren Burnett for a 3rd place finish in the 4x200m Relay, again winning their heat, the 2nd of 3 heats. Then Flint, Gayden and Serafino, ran to a 4th place finish with Dorothy Bradford in the 4x100m Relay. They were 2nd in their heat, and as with sprint relays, this put them on the awards stand again. Minutes later, Lauren Burnett burned up the track in the 400m Dash breaking her own school record once again, and placing 2nd.
Meanwhile, Kayla Dobies and Lindsey Bartz were jumping to great heights. Kayla finished 8th in High Jump and Lindsey finished 4th with a new personal best of 11' 3" in Pole Vault.
Back to the track, less than 45 minutes after she was runner up in the 400m Dash, Lauren set out to run the 800m Run. She was stellar, running 2:09 and placing 3rd, her 4th medal on the day, a 1st in school history.
